I wonder if this problem is related to the scheduled maintenance of
the system. The timing is about right:

Just a heads up that Google Calendar will be undergoing routine
maintenance between 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM PDT on Thursday, April 17th.
This means that you may experience some periodic downtime.

Since you may not be able to view your Calendar at certain times, you
might want to consider printing it out or creating a back-up by
exporting it as an ICAL file. For detailed steps on how to export,
check out our Help Center at http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=37111
